Russian lacquer art
developed from the art of icon painting, which came to an end with the collapse of Imperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people's homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales.
CONDITION
This is a pre-owned item: please refer to photos for all ( if any ) damage, staining, tears, repairs, etc.  I will attempt to note any known issues.
When buying vintage, used or pre-owned items, please be aware there may be some aging, wear and minor manufacturing imperfections.
This has been stored in a smoke free home.
***MEASUREMENTS***
Most of my photos are taken in front of a 1" square grid to give a better indication of size.
Payment
Payment is due within 3 days after the end of auction unless other arrangements have been specified. If payment has not been received within 7 days, we reserve the right to cancel the transaction.
